Level 1 Award in Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health-: 1/2 dayList Item 1
Anyone can be affected by a mental health condition either themselves or a family member, friend or colleague.
This course is suitable for everyone but has been designed to help employers to provide a positive mental health culture within the workplace and to provide learners with comprehensive knowledge on a range of the most common mental health conditions and the skills to be able to act should a condition be suspected.
Syllabus
A range of subjects are covered including:
- What is First Aid for Mental Health?
- Identifying mental health conditions
- Providing advice and starting a conversation
- Drugs and alcohol
- First Aid for Mental Health action plan
- First Aid for Mental Health in the work/school
Assesment:
Practical demonstration of the First Aid for Mental Health Action Plan and a multiple-choice question paper.

Level 2 Award in First Aid for Mental Health: 1 day
This course is suitable for anyone looking to gain an understanding of mental health, with the aim of being able to provide advice and practical support for others in the workplace. It provides delegates with the resources and knowledge to be able to identify signs of stress and various mental health conditions, with the aim of guiding them towards the correct support and improving their organisation’s mental health culture.
Those who achieve this qualification could progress onto FAA Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health.
Sylabus:
- Defining mental health
- Understand the stigma surrounding mental health
- Identify factors that can affect a person's mental health
- Understand the role of a first aider for mental health
- Outline the advice that should be provided to a person suffering from a suspected mental health condition
- Know when to contact emergency services
- Identify signs of stress and how stress can be managed
- Identify signs and symptoms for the following mental health conditions; depression, anxiety, psychosis, eating disorders, suicide and self harm.
- Effects of alcohol and drug abuse on a person's mental health
- Demonstrate the application of the first aid action plan for mental health
- Key factors in providing a positive mental health culture in the workplace
- How to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace

Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Heath- 2 day
This course builds on the Level 2 Award in First Aid for Mental Health and covers a wider range of mental health conditions and goes into detail on the range of therapy and professional support that a person may be given by professional bodies during treatment for a mental health condition.
The course is suitable for all persons within a workplace but is aimed at those who hold a supervisory/managerial level position and who have responsibility for implementing a positive mental health culture and responsibility for First Aid for Mental Health within an organisation.

- What is First Aid for Mental Health?
- Identifying mental health conditions
- Providing advice and starting a conversation
- Drugs and alcohol
- First Aid for Mental Health action plan
- First Aid for Mental Health in the workplace
- A large range of Mental Health conditions covered in detail
Assesment:
Summative practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor each day, along with a written assessment on each day.
